- First, you should use TCUtils (which comes with the IVS hard disk
- controllers) and look at the list of devices to see that each device in
- your system shows up on the list. If this is not the case, then you have
- an addressing conflict which must be resolved.
-
-
- If that is not the problem, then read on...
-
- I had some "odd and intermittent problems" after I added a tape drive
- to my IVS Trumpcard Pro setup. Your problem may be similar as both
- drives deal with removable media.
-
- Turns out that the tape drive did not properly configure during SCSI
- initialization at bootup *unless* there was a tape inserted and the door
- was closed.
-
- The outward indication that I had any problems when a tape was not
- inserted in the drive was a constant pulsing of the SCSI bus (similar to
- the Diskchange check done on the floppy drives). Simultaneous bus
- accesses frequently caused lockups which required cycling power to free
- and many of those lockups caused checksum errors on the accessed
- partition.
-
- When a tape *was* inserted (after booting), there was a sporadic, but
- 100%, cpu drain (about 1.5 seconds out of every 5 seconds) which
- essentially froze every other process.
-
- I alleviated the problem by having a tape inserted and the door closed
- every time I cold or warm boot. I may put a power switch on the tape
- drive as I use it only once a week or so.
-
-
- I suggest that you look at your Hard Disk light (you *did* hook up the
- front LED to the controller, didn't you?) to see if there is a repetitive
- pulsing. If so, then you have the same problem I had.
-
- Whether you see this pulsing or not, try booting your system with a
- disk in the zip drive and the door closed.
